As of this writing, Florida is under a State of Emergency. Though Orlando is not currently in the path, the City I work for has an agreement with other City's to provide aid in the event of a disaster. They call these interlocal agreements, "Sister City Pledges". The two Cities we have these agreements with are Key West (South Florida) and Fort Walton Beach (Panhandle). What that means is whoever needs our help just has to ask for it, and we go in and provide additional man power to help them get back on there feet. Both cities are in the current track of Hurricane Dennis. Both cities has already put us on standby for aid.
I am packed and ready to go. We will be deployed for at least a week, if not more. My "war time" mission is the operation of our Emergency Command Vehicle. We will provide all communications between the field units and act as a base of operation. Here is a pic of "my" ride.
Currently we are standing by, getting our gear together. So tomorrow is prep work, and Sunday we head out.
I will do my best to keep in touch. I am taking the digital camera, so I will have plenty to share when I get back.
To my fellow Floridian's....stay safe.
