Pro of living in desert: no snow, con of living in desert: wildfires!
Got a frantic call at work yesterday from a neightbor, "come home quick, the mountain's on fire!". The mountain he was referring to is at the end of our street. I got home and saw a wall of flame and alot of smoke - scarey! I was trying to decided what to pack into the vehicles and not just start freaking out, when I heard the most beautiful sound - SLURREY BOMBERS! Right between the mountains came 3 spotter planes and 3 huge slurrey bomers. If you've never seen them in action, it was amazing! The pilots banked those huge planes right before the side of the mountain and dropped the fire repellent right onto the flames like it was ballet - only you had the urge to play the theme from Apocalypse Now.They came right over our rooftop and shook the house -it was a thing of beauty! They made it look so easy and saved over 100 homes. Truely a beautiful airplane. God bless ALL the firefighters! Link to our local paper for story:
