its a pretty darn big state. I have lived in the Houston area for about 30 years on and off. I just built a nice 3,000 SF home in a nice upscale area for around $250,000. The one I sold was 2,000 SF and about 20 years old for around $125,000.

No state income tax however the property and sales taxes try and make up for the shortfalls in income.
