...over every dealer at the convention; he merely stated a (well-needed) caveat for all of us who shall be in attendance. If you consider him a friend, then you should appreciate his wisdom in this matter. There are a lot of high end chips and a lot of people spending a lot of money. And there are problems brewing.
MANY of the dealers are reputable....BUT there are also:
A) the greedy ones who knowingly sell garbage
B) others who may have unwittingly bought altered chips and will be re-selling them (some with and some without, the knowledge of the chip's history)
C) bona fide jerks who will not only rip you off, but will steal chips from other dealers' tables given half a chance. (an entirely different matter)
I won't bear false witness...but also won't be putting any big bucks into the $$$$ chips until the lid blows.....
In the meantime, enjoy the show, and go with the knowledge that, for now, you're better off buying a notched or drilled "spacefiller" that will retain its value when the smoke clears rather than laying out large sums of money for what might turn out to be an altered chip worth less than its notched/drilled counterpart.
Have fun, make friends, buy lots of chips...BUT:
"Let's be careful out there!"
