My last month at work as an Assistant U.S. Attorney was spent at Deadwood--my favorite town. No legal gambling but the Franklin would open the Gold Bar on special days; the Elks Club had slots occasionally available and among others the Saloon # 10 had a weekend black jack table going. But on days I did not have court, I would get up at 4:30; drive to beautiful Spearfish Canyon and dry fly fish till the sun hit the stream; then go into the woods finding small creeks and beaver dams and go after the sly trout hiding in the pools. Best of times; no money but a love for the area.
