Shotgun Blast Downs Gambler
Appears to be a Reno newspaper account from 1949 of the shotgun shooting of Lincoln Fitzgerald as he returned home from running the Nevada Club one night. Lots of juicy speculation with mention of Bank Club worthies Bill Graham, Jim McKay and "Baby Face" Nelson (What? You didn't know Baby Face was a Reno denizen!), Bugsy Seigel and The Purple Gang. 110 birdshot pellets in this particular bird. For years afterward, Fitzgerald lived in an apartment within the security of the Nevada Club.
Best line of the piece was hard to select but I liked this groaner: ...to learn whether the shooting may have been prompted by a revenge motive of a disgruntled employee, even though they themselves admit it's "just a shot in the dark." Unlike today's newspaper reporting, there was no attempt to link the shooting to the Bush administration.
