I overheard my son a couple of days ago on the phone telling a friend that he would be at a "scout" activity. He went on, "yeah, Boy Scouts. No it's not, this is what it means." He then explained, not just what he does, but what it "means." He wasn't embarrased or ashamed even though he is in the 8th grade, involved in sports and student government. He has three coisens in the service now, three more who are veterens of Vietnam, two grandfathers who were veterens and countless uncles in uniform. He plans to join the air force when he graduates, hopefully going to the acadamy. He's not a veteren - yet. I don't think we are "red necks", although I did mow the grass and find a car once, but neither do I care. We are Americans, and thank God for those who have, and still do, risk all to keep us free. Thanks for the reminder Phyllis.
