L'auberge du Lac report

Well, I just went to the new riverboat casino in Lake Charles, and was not terribly impressed. The boat was supposed to be the biggest riverboat gambling, but unfortunately, it was just one level. The good thing about the Harrah's/Isle boats is that there are two boats with multiple decks. That means you do not have the entire mass of people on one giant level.

The staff looked entirely overwhelmed by the people there. Many slot machines were either out of service, or the waiting on a slot attendant to do something. Good luck, there were no attendants in sight.

I played craps for awhile, only because it took awhile for the crew to payoff. It was up to the player to tell the crew when they mispaid, which they did regularly. Once a point is made, it literally took 10 minutes for all the payoffs to be paid. Horrible.

For the good news, the place looks nice. I didn't eat at any of the restaurants because the lines were HUGE. There is a Jack Daniels Steakhouse which looked good.

For what I saw of it, the golf course looked well maintained. Although the attendant at the Players Club told me if I liked golf I should play another course in town. That seemed a bit odd.

As expected, opening weekend was wall-to-wall people and they were not prepared. It was a mess.

Opinion... if you want to just gamble somewhere, go to Harrah's. If you want to go and have a resort experience, go to the Coushatta. So far, the du Lac is all hype.
