Barry, most amatuer card manipulators today learn to deal seconds. Without gaffed equipment such as a shoe shiner it is easier to peek at the first two cards on a hand held deck and deal the one that works. The easiest way to detect a dealer dealing seconds is to listen for it, you will hear a slight snap as the second card comes out, you won't hear this if the top card is dealt. Regards, Jim
