I don't know anything about Ashtrays { have a couple of common Trays } so how can you tell this particular Tray is a phony ? I've seen some of your Ashtrays posted...they're great looking Trays...what does a collector look for to tell an Ashtray is genuine ? Any help would be appreciated.

How can you tell this is a fake? Is it the style of glass??
I'd heard about a little place on the strip a few years back that was selling "kncok-off" ashtrays.

Answer to Victor About Phony Ashtray

As with most phonies they are easy to spot.
This particular tray is like a few others that have shown up in the last year or so.
The maker has done a scan of a legitimate tray or found a logo and printed it on photo paper, then cut it out and pasted it in the bowl of the tray. Then they have painted over it with an acrylic sealer.
Real trays had the logos fired on with heat stable ink at very high temperatures.
What few there are have come from Missouri and New York.

BTW look up english hobnail the glass style/ pattern was made between 1974 to 1982 and this particular ashtray HAD NO acrylic paint on it! Once again as my boy friend stated the advertising is INSIDE the glass, NOT glued, painted or any other type of adhering to the glass of any nature. so when you are ask to explain yourself in a professional way please use specifics and facts and not in assumptions or in genrals. this isn't a profession way of conduct.
