The recent issue of CC&TN had an interesting article, by Vince Mowery, on older holed slot machine tokens. If you missed it (heaven forbid) I urge you to take a minute and read it... pages 23 & 24. Very interesting stuff.
I've started a collection of slot machine tokens from San Francisco. One of my tokens is shown below. It's from the Mills Novelty Co., and has the "Good For 5c In Trade" ruse on the reverse. This token, like most others, is 21mm in diameter. Same size as a US nickel. This one is made of nickel, others are made of brass, and occasionally bronze and copper. A few other San Francisco companies that made these type tokens are: Royal Novelty Co. and Bradford Novelty Machine Co.. I also have one token marked Liberty Bell, but I'm not sure (not yet anyway ) if this was the name of a manufacturing company or just the name of an old slot machine.
If anyone has any old slot machine tokens that can be attributed to San Francisco I'll buy or trade for them. They don't necessarily have to have San Francisco on them. Some have only a street address of Market St. or Powell Street. I'll pay $3 each + postage for examples I don't have.
Thanks for looking.
