I’m looking to buy or trade for these tokens. I call them Nevada Souvenir Dollars. They’re about the size of an US Silver Dollar, and are made of metal. I’ve seen them in brass, bronze, and a white metal I believe is nickel. The obverse of these tokens has a common design of a simulated Liberty Head Dollar, and usually the words “Las Vegas Dollar” or “Reno Dollar”. The reverse usually depicts a landmark sign or building, and often lists several casinos or a specific city in Nevada.
When I first became interested in these tokens I though all were “Las Vegas Dollars”. Then I found a “Reno Dollar” and missed a “Carson City Dollar” on . (Damn!) For a while I thought these tokens peculiar to Nevada, but a “Universal Studios Dollar” (California) was on a few months ago. Missed that one too. I’ve identified three companies, so far, that made these: Coins & Gifts International, White Mint, and C & J Creations. The tokens by C & J Creations are by far the highest quality.
Most of these tokens appear to have been made in the mid 60s to the mid 80s. Their purpose? I’m not sure, but I’m thinking these were strictly a souvenir item probably sold in gift shops. None I’ve seen are holed for suspension on a key chain, or show marks of having been removed from a bezel.
To make a long story short… these tokens aren’t particularly valuable, but I think they're interesting. I’d love to buy or trade for any you may have. If you want to trade for inlaid monogram chips... I'm you're guy! If you have one and don’t want to part with it (hey, I understand), I’d very much appreciate a good scan / photo of both sides.
Thanks for looking & reading. We now return you to our regularly scheduled programming. "Goodnight, and have a pleasant tomorrow." (Who said that?)
