All buys would certainly assume there are no marks on the strike. By taking them out of the case, you are exposing them to air, mosture, and worst of all the nasty oils and acid fingerprints. The one thing you dont want is the strike to tarnish.

I've already bought a strike that had large tarnished fingerprints on it within a few days of my getting it. It was from being handled out of the case.
