Re: Some Joplin history
In Response To: Some Joplin history ()

Thank you very much, I appreciate the info. I did know about Joplin's past and the House of Lords but your insights into what type of chips they had and whether Mansion House would have had them is enlightnening.
As to Wilder's, the gambling is confirmed. I work in a hotel, and one of the waitress' in the restaurant used to waitress when she was young at Wilder's, even taking care of the card players that were in the back room. Originally, cards were played upstairs above the restaurant. Some threats were made from some KC gentleman and suspiciously an explosion happened in the upstairs and a man was killed. Cards were moved downstairs in a back room, and that was where she started waiting on them. (She is currently planning a small book of Joplin history). However she never heard of it being called the Southern Club. I was wondering where you got that reference. If you hear any sources of chips for this area, I would appreciate it. Also dont know how much they would be worth. Would you have any suggestions on that matter. Thanks again for the help.
