Jim, I doubt the validity of the story you were told. All roulette wheels are always up in surveillance. Black action would have required a call to both surveillance and the floor supervisor. A payoff that large would have required approval from the floor who would have had to call the pit boss. (Especially in that market) The purple chips would also require floor approval before they were sent. If all of that somehow failed, when he got to the cage, the cashier would have notified her supervisor and surveillance, even if they were sleeping a $17,500 cashout would have woke them up.
