I spotted this in a forum at http://www.twoplustwo.com/ . A poster asked if anyone collected chips from the places they'd played as he had about 50 or so and he was wondering. Interesting replies. Got a kick out of this post. I don't know what the ethics, copyright infringments, potential slander, identy theft or expiration dates on this kind of cut/paste activity are...but I'm sure someone will get their knickers in a twist...just ENJOY the blinking JOKE!!!!

was playing at the MGM Grand the first month they were open, mid-90's. Won a pot that had a $5 Betty Boop chip."Put that in your pocket," the dealer advised. "It'll be worth something some day." So I did.
A year later, the MGM was selling these chips in their gift shop for $30.
Last year, I saw a collector asking for $55 for one on his website.
Got a Bugsy Siegal $5 chip from the Flamingo, same era. Same collector, same asking price.
I've got a $1 chip from the Sands, Hacienda, Treasure Island, MGM Grand, all from the mid-90's, all selling for $12-25 retail.
Of course, retail doesn't tell you much. You can get current $1 chips for $3 retail.
Altogether, I've got about 60 Vegas chips--almost almost all $1, almost none "limited collectors' editions". A few redbirds.
If you've never played in the Mirage, you might like this old story:
I win a pot with a $5 Sigfreid and Roy chip. Local player next to me tells me, "Put that in your shirt pocket."
I'm thinking I just scored another winner, like with the Betty Boop chip. But then the local springs his punchline:
"Now you've got Pocket Queens!"
