I was cleaning and came across an old book “Over Their Dead Bodies, Yankee Epitaphs and History”
A few centuries ago, people didn’t have much of a sense of humor and it’s reflected in their epitaphs. I did find a couple that I thought I'd share. The spelling and grammar are exactly as printed.
In Vermont (no name provided)
Here lies our darling baby boy,
He never crys nor hollers.
He lived but one and twenty days,
And cost us forty dollars.
and
Reader, stop here and cast an eye
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so you must be
Prepare for death, you’ll follow me.
