Humboldt Lodging House evolved into the Commercial Hotel. The Depot hotel closed in 1904 and the manager Charles Mayer built his own hotel on the site of the Gem Hotel.
In 1944 Wm Mayer (Son of Charles) sold the old Mayer Hotel to Red Ellis and A.C. Bigham, the hotel was remodeled and renamed The Stockmen's.
Red Ellis sold the hotel to Dan Bilbao Sr, JB Dollard and VJ McGee in 1952.
In 1955 Ellis bought the Commercial and Ranchinn.
March 1957 the Stockmen's was destroyed by fire. Total loss. The building was rebuilt and there was a grand re-opening in October 1958. A million dollar expansion was completed in 1968.

There was a rumor going around in December that Full House Ltd, the current owners of the Commercial and Stockmen's were selling the casino/hotels. Haven't heard anything since then.
Currently Commercial is a "slot joint", partly the result of a restaurant fire and remodeling, it re-opened in 2004 without any table games.
Stockmen's offers 21, craps, slots, and a featured game such as Let It Ride or Carribean Stud. Roulette and Keno were removed 2-3 years ago.
The same owners also operate the Scoreboard in Spring Creek, just outside of Elko. The sports bar offered 21 and slots.
