I believe overnight carriers caution against placing negotiable items in the envelopes. Have you ever noticed that the address slip is separate from the envelope? I once had to add something to the envelope and the clerk simply opened up the envelope, moved the address slip to another envelope and that was it. Note that the tracking number is on the address slip, not the envelope. I would go USPS and insure the item.
