You are right. People who complain about getting outbid at the last minute are implying that they were willing to go higher. The corollary to this is that they were first trying to obtain the item for less than they were willing to pay. They deserve no sympathy. If one bids the ost he is willing to pay for an item then it matters not whether they are outbid with 2 days to go or 2 seconds.
