I'll put in two cents worth of opinion.
The fact that a report is out and the chips are documented in chip guides as counterfeits, means someone trying to sell one as real, will be recognized.
In the past someone selling a chip could sell it as "real" because there was no evidence or information for the buyers, to direct them.
In other words, NOW WE KNOW BETTER.
With the other chips, from any source, not to point fingers at one person, if they are restored (removing holes), repaired (replacing inlays) or complete recreations (fakes), until somone can point to a chip and say, it's a fake, the buyers will be subject to potential fraud. If someone has a chip repaired, and then sells it as original, the third person in line has no way of knowing what they are getting.
With the chips of the latest discussion, people are now warned that fakes exist and which chips they are, so they shouldn't be seeing these same chips being sold as "real" in the future.
Did that help?
