There are casinos in Europe that do indeed employ technology to detect chips as they are leaving the casino (probably something very similar to the shop-lifting tags we are more familiar with in the U.S.). I've actually seen gamblers stopped and politely asked to cash in their checks before leaving. Now, whether any U.S. casino would actually care if any of their chips "walked" is another question...
