I picked up a number of Paul-son samples at the SuperShow and they were notched as well, Kyle. I haven't checked out the edge marking yet, but I suspect that they reflect the same colors and inserts assigned to a live chip. Drilling would not make the samples stand out in a stack that someone tried to play on the tables; notching makes it very obvious when viewed from the edge.
