Unless you'll have a car, getting back and forth to the Riviera may be a hassle and the car rental or cabfare may eat into your savings from staying somewhere else. Speaking from experience, it sure is convenient to just go downstairs for the events and not to have to lug your traders or purchases around with you all day.
