Invoices DO go out from the seller to the buyer...if the seller sends them out!! In some instances, I have had buyers pay before I send out an invoice when they can figure the totals themselves (I still send an invoice, just 'cuz I'm weird that way ). If you can't figure the total because shipping is not defined, you have to either wait for them to send you a total or an invoice. Make sure that when you ask these questions of the seller, do it through eBay's system...some ISPs will filter out certain e-mail addresses and the seller may never get one from you. Good luck.
