that simple to do, i.e., get the dealer to cut a key based on just knowing the VIN. I suspect that registration checks may also be made, otherwise that is a lot of liability on the dealer.
Secondly, even if this were the case, please do not think that covering up the VIN plate at the base of the wind shield is sufficient. A VIN is located in many, many other places all over a vehicle. With little effort one of the other locations can viewed.
