You are right about prices, Dave. My recommendation on research with the Red Book was to find relative values so you don't include any "key coins" in the lot when you sell it all to a dealer.
My estimate of 30-50% of Red Book was based on my experience with sales to coin dealers. It would even apply to coins you bought at near face from the US Mint, as you found.
These same figures will apply roughly to chip sales to dealers as well... most want to at least double their money in return for carrying your chips in inventory for an extended period of time.
