Got another lobby card from a favorite movie that fits in the chip hobby. The Cincinnati Kid is a great movie. A great poker movie? Not really, poker is just a story device for a pretty routine tale about ambition and ego. Watch this ‘65 movie for outstanding actors and direction. Georgeous screen settings and production values really make this movie work also. The caption of this card is “Rip Torn proves a bad loser against Edward G. Robinson in a poker session, with Karl Malden the dealer.” Some don’t believe Torn played against Lancy in the movie! Really! This is just about the time the movies’s best line is delivered… “You paid to see the cards, lessons are extra.”
One strange thing about the ...Kid lobby cards are the wonky color registrations. As you can see, the chip designs are obliterated by whatever coloring method was used for printing. These are period correct USPC Swirling Comet chips. I will also post another image showing chip detail for those that don’t believe me about that either! Sheesh!
