Re: ELKO Tips
In Response To: ELKO ()

Have a nice time. email me if you have time and I'll give you some detailed tips.

Usually you don't get to choose the casino. The Red Lion is nice because you are at the casino, great Friday seafood buffet (or at least it was?) If you are a player, you can get comped a buffet for two without great difficulty. The players card is the same for GC and RL.

Gold Country actually had newer rooms that seemed larger. Great little coffee shop, with very good food. It's straight across the highway from Red Lion and I never needed more than a light jacket.

High Plains (or whatever it's called this year) is also one of their properties. You can pay extra to stay there. Shuttle bus to the casino's but has health center and indoor pool. (others are outdoor and obviously closed) I don't even know if they have slots, because I never bothered.

The only table games are at Red Lion. And there's a quaint little sports book / sports bar. The only roulete game and Keno in town is at Red Lion.

Here's the catch. Red Lion doesn't want you going dowtown. They won't shuttle you there. BUT if you call Stockmen's they will pick you up at the bank next to Gold Country "free" and drive you to their casino's. Cab was $10 or more, one way, shuttle driver appreciates tips and most I've found were interesting to talk to. When you want to come back go to Commercial or the desk at Stockmen's and they will get you back to Red Lion. Also "free"

The Stockmen's shuttle can't drive on Red Lion property, so you'll get dropped next to Gold Country again. There was a waiting booth with a call button in years past, but you never know?

You are right next to or across the street from a shopping center. Drug store, groceries, liquor stores, Post Office, and many more shops.

If you drink Coke products, good luck. Nevada has some strange soft drink contracts, almost everyplace sells ONLY Pepsi products. (plus the one allowed competing beverage which turns out to be 7-up or Mr. Pibb or something?)

Casino Express is cool. They usually have some games on the plane. You get off the plane and get directly onto a waiting shuttle or buss. They wisk you to the casino and check-in is an envelope with your room key, players card and button. It's a breeze.

When they take you back, the "airport" is tiny. Use the restrooms at the casino before you board the shuttle back to the airport. 300 people and two tiny restrooms, you don't want to have a need to visit them.

Wear your button at all times, if you want to be tracked. They record buyins of $100 or more at the tables.

Both of the downtown casino's had a free roll of nickles for people with a Casino Express button. One a day.

If you are looking for a sip of the local scene, the 449'er club is the place. Video Poker in the bar, free drink for a $20 buy-in. Hopefully the place is still open.

Glance across the street from Stockmen's and see the Silver Dollar Saloon. I never went in.

Stockmen's had a gift shop in the basement, which isn't marked well. They sell casino ashtrays. The same ones you will see sold on eBay as "rare". No dice since the late 90's, but you can ask the pit boss and they might dig up a keychain for you.

Red Lion has the casino gift shop with casino dice and cards. No logo ashtrays since the late 90's.

Your mission, find out if Stockmen's was sold and what's on the tables. vbg

Same Corp. owns Stockmen's, Commercial and the Scoreboard Sports Bar.

Same Corp. owns Red Lion Gold Country and the High Plains, and runs Casino Express Airlines.
