These things are also used on skis, surfboards, skate boards, jet skis, auto parts, boats, etc. There used to be some small Quality Control labs in the LA area that specialized in these inspections.

I am not suggesting this would be cheap or easy -- only that, as a recollection from my "old days" as a "steelie-eyed aerospace engineer", there is a system that will probably detect these repairs.
