I worked for the Postal Service for 30 years and on the window for the last 15. Registered mail to a foreign country is only meant to insure delivery, not the contents. Most people don't understand this. Acts of God do happen however and mail is lost, even registered mail.
Even in the United Stats, Registered Mail can be "insured" for a million dollars + but the Postal Service is only liable for $25,000 no matter what you insure it for.
So the bottom line is ask your Postal Clerk what you are getting for your money. Make sure you unterstand about the insurance you are asking for.
Now for a couple of points I would like to make. The postal service supplies all shipping materials (Boxes, envelopes, etc) for Priority mail. When you mail something and insure it, don't bother to get deliverly confirmation, the insurance works as the same thing. You only need ONE number on a package.
