Back in my "Punk" days, when stamps weren't self stick, we used to rub a bar of Ivory Soap over the stamps so the cancellation mark could be easily washed off.
We'd then wash them, steam them off the envelope, then reuse them till the next postal increase. Even after the increases, we'd just combine stamps. (This works best if your trading and have both agreed to send back the stamps.)
It's a little different with the self stick stamps. You need to find a product called "Peel" which dissolves the glue on the stamps.
Soak the "peeled" stamps in warm water to dissolve the "peel". Dry them flat between paper towels, then glue them to your mailer or envelope. Now hit them with the Ivory Soap bar....and VIOLA!
Free Stamps!
