You can google this (as I am certain many have) and you will find a plethora of information. It is commonly held that gambling is indeed a sin as it violates the commandment against "coveting" the possessions of others.
However, I do not "gamble" with the illusion or desire of making money or getting rich. My "desire" is only to play, have fun and relax. The activity does not deprive my family (or anyone else) of anything. To me, the activity is strictly a form of "entertainment". Therefore, to me, it isn't a sin anymore than going to see a movie.
Interestingly, Churches will often hold games of chance (Bingo) and claim that it is ok merely because of where the money is going. However, the practice from an individual standpoint remains the same. Casinos provide jobs, pay taxes, and thus support the community in which they exist. What argument could they make that is similar to the Church?
