One would think that the casino's own best interest would be served if they DESTROYED chips instead of notching, drilling or cancelling them.

Many older CHIPCO chips have cancellation notches that are barely visible that have been redeemd at casino cages across the country. I know that isn't the case today, but it was so not too many years ago.
