from the Board of Directors' Report on Altered Chips in May 2004:
Mr. Whalen showed us tools he used, reproduced inlays, mold castings to replace broken molds, and samples of the work he had done. Laid out side by side, one cannot tell with the naked eye the altered chip from the unaltered sample. It is our understanding that an altered drilled chip can be detected by taking an X-ray picture of the chip. In drilled condition, a particular chip may sell for several hundred dollars. One of the few known un-drilled examples of the same chip could sell for several thousand dollars.
