For some reason, I find it very difficult to believe the following scenerio would happen:
"THEY WERE VERY PERSISTANT THAT WE TURN IT OVER TO THEM. HOWEVER, WE REALIZING THE SIGNIFICANCE, ELECTED NOT TO."
How many casinos would allow an altered or "misprinted" chip leave in someone's pocket? After all, the chips are property of the casino's and a $5 chip with a $25 inlay is a liability to them. I simply can't believe a pit boss would leave it up the patron on whether or not to return it.
