Something for collectors to keep in mind is that LE chips must make sense to the issueing casinos as marketing tools. For instance, the Palms LE's promote various events that the Palms participates in or commemorate activities where the Palms wants to establish a presence as a property friendly to participants in that activity. Bingo Elly and NASCAR chips for instance. Bingo players bring a surprising amount of $$$ to a casino and why not take a stab at putting a bunch of race fans in the Palms Hotel? Playboy brings the cache Palms would like to brand itself with hence the PB logo. Somewhere over at the Palms, someone's penciling out costs vs. marketing return... and they must be happy so far! Actually IMO the Palms house chips with dates and suits are the chips really aimed at collectors. Hard Rock does recognise a pure collector aspect to it's chips and pins because their collection of rock memorabilia is focal to their schtick. If these chips are paying their own way at Palms and HRH, we'll be finding more to consider for our collections. I have NO idea what 4 Queens thinks about when they do an LE.
I also think LE's have attracted a large number of collectors to the club. Everyone's tastes are likely to change as they move through the hobby and LE's may not be a priority as they once were but even so, don't they still make you look? My last two acquisitions? A '37 Hollywood CA. illegal and the first collector chip, a '90 Harrah's sailboat. If you collect what you like, you'll never be disappointed.
