Sorry for the big picture...
These Playing Cards were given to me as a gift in 1990 by a great friend of mine....the late Marc Weiser, who was a big chip and Las Vegas collector in his day.
I really never thought much about the cards until yesterday when I looked and noticed the tax stamp on the cards. Before that I thought that the cards were just some kind of advertising cards made in the 1970's with a retro look. I e-mailed a few people and did some research and found out the tax stamp style used on the cards was used from 1940-1965 and the tax stamp was cancelled by A.P.C. CO. (Arrco Playing Card Company). U.S. Taxes on playing cards were abolished in 1965. With the logo and slogan, the tax stamp I believe that these cards were sold at the Sand's as gifts in the 1950's. Logo'd playing cards on gaming tables became more of the norm in the mid to late 1960's.
If you can't afford the early Sand's chips, this might be an affordable way to complete your Sand's collection. I am selling one of the two decks given to me. (I'm keeping the other for my collection).
Thanks for looking
