Hey Ken,
Aren't you making an assumption that Jim doesn't "reflect"? Isn't it an assuption that he isn't in touch with the conditions of the worlds population?
I do agree that there are many needs in the world, and in the big scheme of things, Jim's use of the word "need" (and all of us that use the phrase)is quite insignificant. Again, thats only in the big scheme of things.
However, I have to point out that your post comes with the feel of a soap box. You very well may have meant it without that intent, since you put on that it wasnt a personal attack. But still, it does come off that you're standing tall on a soap box.
With the exception of a few, the group of chippers here as a whole, are some of the most caring individuals you'll have the priviledge of associating with.
One should never assume that a person hasn't dug deep into their pockets to generously give to worth while causes. One should also never assume that when a chipper puts on a post that he or she "NEEDS" a chip that it isnt a very real and significant need.
There's nothing more heartbreaking then to see a chipper going through chip acquisition withdrawal! To see the pathetic look in their eyes as they deeply yearn for that one little chip.
I will never forget the image burned into my memory of poor Jay Sands with his face pressed against the glass case at the chip auction display of last years CC& GTCC convention. The soft whiper coming from him as he he could merely muster just three words "I need those"
One could not help but to feel his pain as they looked into his sad eyes when the chips he so yearned for were sold off to another lucky chipper. I still get choled up when I recall the single tear rolling down his cheek and the slight quivering of his lower lip.
Yes...a sad, sad sight indeed. There are those that say that poor Jay has been emotionally scared from that fateful day. Perhaps a lifetime of wondering "what if I had only bid higher", will also take it's horrible toll on poor Jay. So you see, poor Jay did truely "need" those chips.
So now perhaps you can see that poor Jim, "needs" this chip.
For all of those that have read this post, please, don't let poor Jim end up like poor Jay.
Won't you help?
