Keep it simple.

IMHO a "data base" program is overkill.

I just use a word processor (Word Perfect) and type a simple list.
State/City/Casino/Number(CG, TCR, etc.)

Word processor/text editor vs. Data base

WP/TE - Every computer owner has one, no additional investment. Quick and simple. Easy to make changes or add lines.

DB - The only advantage I can think of is possibly having a 'value' field and generating an automatic valuation of your collection.

My routine with new arrivals is:

1. Inspect and clean if needed. I'm sure I'm gonna get some flak on this. I use common shaving cream and a soft toothbrush.

2. Identify. I use chipguide.com.

3. Catalog. A fancy word for adding items to my word processing document (read list).

4. File. I use 2x2 vynal flips with the chip in front and an identification card in back. I store these in vynal coin pages (makes for easy reorganization) in three-ring binders.

The whole process take only one or two minutes per chip.
