As a "real" collector you should be able & willing to outbid one who wants to buy for resale. Think about it - if the dealer believes the item is underpriced so much so that he/she can buy it and resell it for a profit, then you you the "real" collector should have bid it up to the true value which would eliminate or greatly reduce the dealer's opportunity.
