Strip Pic 1968! grin

Barry said he liked this picture so I thought I'd add some info to it. Got it in the form of a note card at the 4 Q's gift shop when we had that thing at the Riv this year. I can remember being in Las Vegas as a teen in the summer of '67. It was hot (remember, I'm from Orygun). I remember a lot of sand and wide open spaces up and down along the "strip" in 1967. Believe me, my dad belived chips were for bets, not for collecting! grin

Anyhoo, by putting a glass to the photo and reading some of the legend on the back of the card I'm able to give you a small tour. Would certainly appreciate ANY suppliment anyone can provide for what we're lookin' at! Stating at the bottom:

  • 1. We have the Dunes here with a sign across the street for the Bonanza.
  • 2. Ceasars Palace with Bob Stupak's auto removed from the fountains.
  • 3. This is the Flamingo and you can see the Champaign Tower out in front. I was glad to get oriented to this layout as I didn't realize that the famous Oregon Building you always see in Flamingo pool area shots was on the east side of the resort. Not exactly sure what that motel room structure is immediatly north under the numeral, more Flamingo?
  • 4. Sage & Sand Motel under the number and the tower across the street is the Sands. Wonder if that building just S of the Sands is another casino?
  • 5. The Frontier. I'm not real familiar with what else is happening here, must be the Riviera somewhere nearby and is that the Stardust just N with all the motel-like units? Desert Inn across from Frontier? Circus Circus opened in '68 but I can make out a tent structure up there...
  • 6. The Landmark is still standing. Is that the Sahara, the next tall building up there?

Like I say, add on to this if you want.
