I find it best to look for the rental car companies that don't put a "hold" charge on your credit card when you pick up the car. The "hold" charge is above and beyond the estimated charge for the rental, usually $200-$250 over. Budget, Thrifty and Enterprise do this, and others may too. I think it's a racket, with these companies floating your money for the time of the rental plus one or two business days afterward. Alamo, Dollar and Payless don't put a hold on your card.
In Las Vegas, the Dollar and Payless lots are right at the airport at the terminal 2 entrance (quick access to and from the terminal) while Alamo is off the airport property. You can get to the Alamo lot from the Strip via Sunset or you can take Paradise through the tunnel. Renting from Alamo, I think you avoid having to pay an additional airport facilities fee,
