Sniping also being some sort of defense against shilling, I would assume that it can eliminate shilling unless shills also start using similar software to "counter-attack". From an honest seller's point of view, I suspect it makes shilling even more of a nuisance since more bidders may take up sniping to avoid shills. I have been at both sides of the fence, so I am speaking from some experience.
