Either you do not fly very much or you have your own plane. If the flight was cancelled there was a reason. Better to stay on the gorund than to go in an unfit plane or bad weather.
Sounds to me as if the airline did right by you all the way around. Try some of the South American flights and you will think they handled the matter as if you were the majority stock owner.
As for the camera. I believe you will note that it is posted all over the place not to check valuables through with your luggage. That is the reason for carry on.
I am not a stock holder in Delta but I really do not see any fault on the part of the carrier.
Just my personal opinion.
