I won't take you up on your odds offer Paul, but I will use this thread to put forth my feelings on the significance of this election.
I believe this to be the most important election that anyone currently living will experience and may well be the most important election this nation has seen in its brief history. The decisions made by us all next Tuesday will affect generations to come. This isn't about the next four years, it is about the directions we take that impact civilization as we know it.
Ousting President Bush will show the rest of the world that the nation that defeated Hitler is now under to control of pacifists who will not take the lead and fight the evil that is inherent in some societies. It will send a message to future presidents that making unpopular decisions that are right for our country are to be avoided. That will assassinate the meaning of the word leadership, something this country should avoid at all cost.
Electing Kerry will show the terrorists of this world that the actions taken against us in Somalia are all they need to do to bring the US to its knees. It will show the world that people like Bin Laden can topple a United States administration without ever setting foot on American soil.
Keep the 24-hour barrage of grizzly photos streaming on CNN and Al-Jezeira (sp?) and what you have is the media playing at the deepest fears of every American citizen, and acting in concert with the animals performing said grizzly acts.
The willingness of the modern media to actively defeat Bush in this election is troubling. The willingness of the modern media to advance the cause of the terrorists is something that should be of concern to everyone living in the free world, but apparently it isn't to way too many.
Historians will look back on the 2004 elections and be able to point to significant world changes, be they positive or negative. I only hope they will be positive with a reelection of a strong leader, not the election of a man who's past actions put him in the same class as Jane Fonda and Benedict Arnold.
