American Motors is a real piece of work. I don't know if I can mention some of the stupid stuff that went on without offending some Union loyalist.
But they made the bodies in Milwaukee and then trucked them to Kenosha, don't worry about how much it cost them and the added expense of trucking them some 40 miles.
Anyone notice any AMC cars on the road any more?
On the other side, the engine line in Kenosha had some of the best people I called on. The workers DID care and had pride in their product. (car assembly folks did too) The buyers I delt with looked for savings and quality and never once hinted at hand out, free-bees and other "bribes" that I ran into across the industry.
Did I mention that ever since I stopped calling on GM and AMC I've been driving something much smaller and more economical, like a Honda?
Used to think my Rambler wagon with a six was good for mileage.
