Todd would prefer I not respond but I will anyway.
First, it’s fine to have your own opinion regarding unions. Second, being Todd's wife, I know when he's whining. His original post was a complaint, not a whine. Not having a break is something a union person would have a heart attack about and it’s a worthy complaint. Todd fully expected to work hard. He also works hard everyday, but your generalization is that if you do not do physical labor then your work isn’t hard and it’s not honest.
Yes, Todd shared his excitement about the money. However, that was only one factor in the decision for Todd to cross the picket line. He did not share the other reasons because being that this is a chip board and not really a political debate board. And yes, this strike is politically motivated and so much more than extended contracts and increase of nonunion jobs. So yes Todd did go for the money in part but he's fulfilling his primary responsibility in life, to be a good provider for his wife and daughter. The prospects of money helped make a decision to leave us at home and cross union lines much easier. It's close to Christmas and I want to go to my best friends wedding across the country the week before Christmas. The extra income will certainly be appreciated. Will I share the other reasons he went, no, it was and will remain his decision to share those factors.
However, you should know that when a front line “scumbag” manager is approached by higher-ups to “volunteer” it doesn’t always mean they are volunteering. I am guessing you are not management by your union stance, so I’m not sure if you understand this. But relate it to this, when your wife asks you to take out the trash, is she really asking?
You are more than entitled to have your opinion about the place of unions and their roles, etc. and this strike. You are very well spoken in the heated vernacular of the union crowd. Good for you. If you want to be unhappy with my husband crossing the lines that your prerogative. But he does honest work and he knows what hard work is and he does appreciate the work others do. Bottom line, though, you make a lot of generalizations and character assassinations that are simply untrue.
So, back to Todd’s original message, I know that if any of you are in the AC area and are comfortable with going into the casino, he would love to see you. He doesn’t see other chippers that often, in part because the chip convention always falls in between our anniversary and our daughter’s birthday and we don’t travel much.
