Yes it happens all the time, in fact my boss does it all the time. If you want to make more or want to sell the item the seller will cancel the auction (take the hit for putting it on the first place) and sell it off line.

Ebay does get OPed about this and will send emails about it now and then but we all like to make more money then what its being sold for, don't we?
