a lot of the US airlines have grounded a substantial portion of their fleets over the past 3 years. With fewer flights than pre-9/11, the flights that remain are fuller and that equates to better profitability. Some of these airlines have brought some planes back, others have grounded even more planes.

There is a website that details the numbers for some of the airlines but I can't remember what it is to save me right now. I will try to find it and post a link for all that are interested.
